Michele and Michelle (Tulalip Lushootseed Language Program) will discuss how their program is working to create the next generation of Lushootseed speakers. Because of the limited domains for practice and exposure, the average fluency of 'heritage' learners is less than more commonly-taught languages. They will discuss some of their efforts (past, present and planned) to compensate for and fill in the gaps of early childhood exposure, K-12 continuity, and adult communicative opportunities.
