Avery Weinman is the Academic and Research Programs Coordinator for the UCLA Y&S Nazarian Center for Israel Studies. She completed her Master’s in History at the University of California, Los Angeles, where she studied modern Jewish history in the Middle East in general and researched the social dimensions of youth radicalism in British Mandatory Palestine in particular. She earned her Bachelor’s in History and Jewish Studies from the University of California, Santa Cruz, where she served as Editor-in-Chief of Leviathan Jewish Journal and completed a thesis on the relationship between Mizrahi Israelis and the Likud Party. Before joining the UCLA Y&S Nazarian Center as a member of the staff, she was the center’s Harry C. Sigman Graduate Fellow from 2020 to 2022.

In addition to her studies, Avery worked as a UCLA Teaching Associate. In this role, she assisted in teaching courses on the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict, the philosophy of history, Holocaust memory, and the history of the modern Middle East. She also worked as a podcast host for the New Books Network series in Israel Studies, Jewish Studies, and Middle East Studies. Additionally, in 2023 she published an article – “Mutual Empowerment in the ‘Power Era’: US Jews and American Indians in the Post-Civil Rights Movement United States”  in the academic journal American Jewish History.

Avery has lived and worked in Israel, specifically in Jerusalem, and speaks Hebrew.
