Ufahamu: A Journal of African Studies
Special Retrospective Issue 43:2

Ufahamu: A Journal of African Studies seeks submissions for our upcoming Special Retrospective Issue engaging with particular topics related to the study of Africa and African Diasporas as we continue to reflect on fifty years of Ufahamu's publication. We encourage interested contributors to submit scholarly articles, commentaries, and analyses across disciplines, addressing themes including but not limited to ANTI-COLONIALISM, NATIONAL LIBERATION, CONSCIOUSNESS, PAN-AFRICANISM, BLACK MARXISMS, DIASPORA, ACTIVIST-INTELLECTUALISM. In addition, we welcome book reviews and submissions of creative work such as visual art, poetry, and fiction. This Special Issue will include republished works from our back catalog from intellectuals such as Walter Rodney, Amilcar Cabral, Ali Mazrui, Geri Augusto, Sondra Hale, Ntongela Masilela, Jean-Jacques Depelchin, and more, alongside selected submissions from our call.

 

Please note that all submissions must adhere to Ufahamu’s Submission Guidelines in order to be considered for publication.

All article submissions must be previously unpublished and follow the guidelines below:
• Submit as an attachment in a Microsoft Word document
• Format in 12-point Times New Roman font with one-inch margins, and no longer than 25 pages double spaced (excluding endnotes and bibliography)
• Include an approximately 400 word abstract
• Follow the Chicago Manual of Style for citations

Book review submissions must be 750–1000 words. If you are interested in reviewing any of the books listed at //www.international.ucla.edu/africa/ufahamu/books, please email ufahamu@gmail.com and include:
• Title of book you would like to review
• Your full name
• Institutional affiliation
• Postal address
• Telephone number

For creative submissions, please attach all works (i.e. images, poems, stories, etc.) in a single Word document with the following information:
• Title of work
• Short bio
• Genre of submitted work and/or materials used
