In human history, there has been various narrative fiction –myth, epic, roman and novel. These literary works have been called “Soseol” in Korean literature. The terminologies of "Soseol" - myth, legend, folklore, epic, roman, novel, narrative, story, text, plot, and fiction - can be defined by focusing especially as a narrative fiction. Three elements of "Soseol" are present: theme or subject, plot, and literary style, as well as three elements of construction: the characters, events, and the setting. In addition to these topics, Professor Lee will also suggest two methods of reading “Soseol”; one by focusing on the theme or subject and the second focusing on the characters as you read the work.
Lecture will be in Korean.
This event is exclusive to CKS Visiting Scholars, graduate/undergraduate students, and faculty.
