When Kim Jong Il suddenly died in December 2011, the succession had not been finalized. Yet, everything went smoothly, with Kim Jong Un taking his father's place as the new young leader of North Korea. Since his succession, Kim Jung Un has been trying to bring change to the regime's policy and the economic strategy. Will his reforms work under the stress of the ongoing internal power struggle? We will observe different political and economic strategies which Kim Jung Un is trying to implement in order to solidify his new rule.

Lecture by Professor Andrei Lankov - 

Professor Lankov completed his undergraduate and graduate studies at Leningrad State University in Russia, but also attended Kim Il-sung University in Pyeongyang, North Korea. He is currently teaching Korean Studies at Kookmin University in Seoul, South Korea since 2004.
