Sumi Chang

University of Hawaii at Manoa

Sumi Chang is an Instructor for the B.A. Program at the Korean Language Flagship Center of the East Asian Languages and Literatures Department at the University of Hawaii, Manoa. She has been teaching Korean at UH since 2004, and has worked with students of diverse backgrounds including heritage students. She feels fortunate to have had the opportunity to teach various proficiency levels from the very beginner Korean 101 to the advanced 600's level. At advanced levels, Sumi brings in content, drawing from her background in political science, educational psychology, and second language acquisition. Before teaching Korean, Sumi has taught English as second language at UH English Language Institute and Special English Program. Her research interests include Korean sociolinguistics and pedagogy.
